Dortmund striker, Dovbyk has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering an ankle injury during training.
The 25-year-old forward was replaced by substitute, Bamba in Dortmund's last match against Eintracht Frankfurt and it is feared that he will be missing out on the rest of the campaign.
Dovbyk had scored three goals in just five appearances this season but his absence could have a significant impact on Dortmund's chances of winning the Bundesliga title.
The German giants currently sit top of the table with a nine-point lead over second-placed RB Leipzig, but Dovbyk's absence could make it harder for them to maintain their lead.
Despite the setback, Dortmund manager, Lucien Favre remains optimistic about the club's chances of success in the coming weeks.
"We're disappointed for Dovbyk and we wish him well," said Favre. "But we still believe in our team and we'll keep fighting until the end."
In the meantime, Dortmund will need to find a replacement for Dovbyk in their attack, which could mean more playing time for young players such as Bamba or even new signings.
However, the club will also have to manage without one of its most important players for the rest of the season, and it will be interesting to see how they cope with the loss of Dovbyk.
