Union Berlin have secured their first win in the Bundesliga since their promotion last season with a 2-0 victory over Augsburg at the Olympiastadion on Saturday.
The match was dominated by Union's attacking threat, as they managed to find the back of the net through two goals from key players: Sebastian Haller and Julian Knoche.
Haller scored his 14th goal of the season, while Knoche added to his tally after only half an hour on the pitch. The German international has been in excellent form this season, scoring nine goals in just eight league games.
With the win, Union now sit in fifth place in the table, six points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund. The team is looking strong under new manager Alexander Nilsen, who took over in January after the departure of former boss Felix Magath.
In other news, Augsburg were unable to secure any points against fellow mid-table side Mainz, despite having several chances to score. The visitors struggled to create any real openings, with Mainz goalkeeper Manuel Neuer making some impressive saves to keep them out of the net.
Overall, it was a solid performance for Augsburg, but they will be disappointed not to take all three points. They will need to improve their defensive record if they want to make a push for a top-six finish in the coming weeks.
