The German Bundesliga has been dominated by two teams this season - FC Augsburg and VfL Bochum. On Sunday, FC Augsburg secured their first ever Bundesliga title with a 1-0 victory over VfL Bochum at the Volkswagen Arena.
The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating numerous chances throughout the game. However, it was FC Augsburg who managed to break the deadlock in the 69th minute through a goal from substitute Juan Vargas. The winger scored his first-ever Bundesliga goal to seal the title for his team.
VfL Bochum had already qualified for next season's Europa League after finishing third in the table, but they were unable to make it a clean sweep on the final day of the season. Despite the disappointment, coach Jürgen Klinsmann praised his players for their efforts during the campaign.
"The team showed great spirit and determination all season long," said Klinsmann. "We fought hard and never gave up until the end."
Despite the loss, VfL Bochum will be hoping to bounce back next season and compete for honours once again. Meanwhile, FC Augsburg can now look forward to a well-deserved rest as they celebrate their historic win.
